Srinagar: At least one CRPF sub-inspector (SI) was martyred and two others injured when heavily armed terrorists attacked CRPF patrol party in Srinagar’s Pantha Chowk area on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

A senior police official said that a sub-inspector in 29th Battalion of the CRPF was martyred and another trooper was injured when terrorists attacked a patrol party in Pantha Chowk area on the outskirts of the city here.
After carrying out the attack, the terrorists whose number is stated to be between three and four, rushed into the nearby Delhi Public School building and are said to be hiding there, said the police official.
He said that the entire area has been surrounded and an operation has been launched to neutralise the trapped terrorists.
The police official said that all the three critically injured soldiers were evacuated to military hospital where sub-Inspector Sahab Shukla succumbed to his injuries. Two others are undergoing treatment, he added.
“With reinforcement having started reached the attack site, locals have again started pelting stones to enable the terrorists hiding in the DPS building escape,” the police official added.
Meanwhile, Lashkar-e-Taiba claimed responsibility of Pantha Chowk attack.
LeT spokesman Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi said in a statement:”Mujahideen Lashkar e-Taiba attacked on CRPF party at Pantha Chowk on Srinagar-Jammu highway.”
As a precautionary measure, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway has been closed.
