Srinagar: An army captain and a para commando were injured in the ongoing encounter between the security forces and the terrorists holed up in Delhi Public School (DPS) complex here on Sunday morning.

A senior police official said that the encounter with the terrorists started after midnight between the terrorists holed up inside the DPS complex here and the security forces in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar. It is believed that there are three to four terrorists holed up in the school complex where they took refuge after attacking a CRPF road opening vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, in which a CRPF sub-inspector was martyred and two others injured.
After attacking the CRPF vehicle, the terrorists escaped from the scene and took refuge in the nearby DPS complex that has been completely cordoned off by the security forces, said the police official.
“With security reinforcements having reached the school complex, an encounter between the terrorists and the holed up terrorists started after midnight,” said the police official.
The police official further said that with encounter intensifying on Sunday morning, two armymen including a young Army officer was injured. Both the injured Army personnel have been shifted to the Army base hospital where their condition is stated to be stable, adeed the police official.
With restrictions on the stretch of Srinagar-Jammu national highway between Ram Munshibagh and Sempora imposed by the district administration from Saturday evening, mobile internet services (3G/4G) were also suspended in the Kashmir Valley to prevent the spread of rumours, said the police official.
Meanwhile, fresh ceasefire violation was witnessed in Naushera sector of Rajouri district by the Pakistani army on Sunday at 6.30 am.
“Pakistan army began indiscriminate firing and shelling on our positions on the LoC in Naushera sector from 6.30 am,” Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehtasaid.
He said that the Pakistan army initiated firing using small arms and automatic gunfire, but later used mortars.
However, the firing is still on with Indian forces retaliating effectively, he added.
