Srinagar: It was yet another success for the security forces when two terrorists were killed in an encounter early on Tuesday in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a senior police official, the gunfight between the security forcesand the terrorists had started in Batmuran village of Shopian district on late Monday evening.
“Acting on a tip-off about two to three terrorists hiding in a house, the security forces comprising Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police surrounded a house in Batmuran village of Shopian district,” said the police offical.
Besides, a woman was killed and nine civilians injured as they tried to protest while the encounter was on between terrorists and the security forces.
The woman, identified as 24-year-old Rubi Jan, sustained a gunshot injury during protests in Batmuran village, the police said.
Nine protesters were also injured in the clashes. The injured Jan was shifted to hospital where doctors declared her “brought dead”.
The police official said that the third terrorist sustained a minor injury but was still engaged in the gun battle.
Director General of Police SP Vaid said one of the slain terrorist was from the area itself.
The police official said as the operation was still on in the area, the house in which the terrorists were hiding was destroyed during the encounter.
As a precautionary measure, the authorities have suspended Internet services in the south Kashmir region to check the spread of rumours, added the police official.
