Alert troops foil infiltration bid in J&K’s Kupwara, terrorist killed

Srinagar: Alert security forces on Sunday gunned down an infiltrating terrorists from across the Line of Conctrol (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara.

According to defence sources, alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by neutralising an infiltrating terrorists.

Sources said that alert troops of the Army noticed suspicious movement near Ustad Post in Keran sector of Kupwara and challenged the infiltrators. “When challenged, the terrorists fired, triggering a gunfight. One terrorist has been killed in this operation which is still on,” said sources.

Meanwhile, according to reports, two of the five terrorists killed by the Indian Army last month while trying to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir’s Tangdhar sector from Pakistan were on Sunday identified as locals by their families.

The Army had said that the five terrorists were trying to infiltrate the Line of Control (LoC) when they were killed by troops on May 25.

While the Army said it had recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the slain terrorists, the exact identity of the slain terrorists had not been established.

The neutralised terrorists were buried by locals who had taken their photographers which were later circulated on social media.

Based on the photographic evidences, two families from Pulwama and Kulgam districts claimed the two were their kin.

One of the terrorist was identified as Shiraz Ahmad of Lajoora in Pulwama and the other was identified as Mudasir Ahmad of Parigam village in Kulgam district.

Shiraz was missing since September 2017 and Mudasir had gone missing since July 2016.
