Srinagar: The Indian Army on Saturday foiled a major infiltration bid by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) killing at least 5 to 7 terrorists including BAT commandos.

The BAT attempt had taken place on the intervening night of July 31 and August 1

Sources said that the BAT team including some terrorists made a futile infiltration bid to carry out a strike in Keran sector on the Line of Control (LoC) and to facilitate infiltration of a group of terrorists in the Kashmir valley.

Army sources said heavy casualties were inflicted on the BAT and assessed that four possible Special Services Group (SSG) commandos of the Pakistan army and three terrorists were killed as the bodies of at least four were spotted close to the post on LoC in Keran sector where the action took place.

The Army also said that in the last 36 hours, several attempts were made by Pakistan army to push terrorists of Jaish e Mohammad (JeM) and other terror organizations into J&K from the launch pads in PoK.

According to Army officials, over the past three days, Pakistan has made a number of attempts to disturb peace in the Valley and target the Amarnath Yatra.

The BAT attempt had taken place on the intervening night of July 31 and August 1.

The sources further said that search operations launched by the Indian Army and attempts to recover the dead bodies were continuously disrupted by heavy shelling from the Pakistani troops deployed in the area.

The Northern Command of the Army also issued a statement saying, ”Around 5-7 Pakistani army regulars or terrorists have been eliminated and their bodies are lying on the Line of Control and have not been retrieved yet due to heavy firing.”

“Security forces will continue to respond to all nefarious activities along the LoC,” the Northern Command said in a statement.

“In the last 36 hours, Pakistan has desperately attempted to revive terrorism and push terrorists from JeM and other terror outifts including LeT. These activities by Pakistan establishes its complicity to terror activities and disrupt peace in Jammu & Kashmir. The response by security forces vindicates the build-up in the hinterland,” said an official.
