Lucknow: Dreaded gangster Munna Bajrangi was shot dead inside the Baghpat jail on Monday morning.
According to a police official, Bajrangi was to be produced in court this later in the morning.
Sources said that Bajrangi was killed at around 6 am by an inmate Sunil Rathi who is said to be from a rival gang.
The 51-year-old criminal was shot ten times and then his body was dumped into a gutter inside the prison premises.
Bajrangi was transferred to Baghpat jail from Jhansi on Sunday as he was to be produced in court in connection with the murder case of a BJP lawmaker.
Immediately after the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered suspension of four prison officials, including the jailor and the deputy jailor.
A judicial probe has also been ordered by the chief minister.
It may be recalled that a few days back, Bajrangi’s wife had told the police that a conspiracy was being hatched to eliminate her husband.
