Five army-men martyred, one terrorist killed in counter-terrorist operation in J&K’s Poonch

Jammu: Five Indian Army personnel including a junior commissioned officer (JCO) and four soldiers lost their lives during a counter-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Dara Ki Gali (DKG) in the Surankote area of Poonch district on Monday morning. One terrorists has also been neutralised in the operation.

Intense firing has resumed in the area

According to reports, the counter-terrorist operation was launched in a village close to DKG in Surankote in the early hours of Monday following intelligence inputs about the presence of some terrorists in the area.

Officials privy to the operation said that following inputs about the presence of a group of heavily-armed terrorists who managed to sneak from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Chamrer forest, a cordon and search operation was launched.

Lt Colonel Devender Anand, defence ministry spokesman said, “Five soldiers including JCO, who suffered critical injuries in an encounter with the terrorists, were evacuated to a nearby medical facility, but they succumbed to injuries.

“The operation is still going on in the area”.

Hiding terrorists, believed to be 4 to 5, fired at the surrounding troops resulting in critical injuries to five soldiers, including the JCO. One terrorist has also been killed by the security forces, said an official.

Meanwhile, as per latest reports, intense firing has resumed in the area with re-enforcement reaching the area.
