Srinagar: Four army man including a major were martyred and four infiltrating terrorists killed at the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday as security forces thwarted yet another infiltration bid by terrorists in Gurez sector of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
According defence sources, a group of terrorists whose number was between eight and ten tried to infiltrate from Govind Nallah in Gurez sector early Tuesday morning.
Though the the securitymen foiled the infiltration bid by terrorists ahead of Independence Day, in the resulting exchange of gunfire, 4 armymen lost their lives but not before four of the infiltrating terrorists were also neutralised.
According to reports, the Pakistan army provided covering fire when the infiltrating terrorists were crossing the LoC.
The operation is still underway with additional troops having been rushed to the spot, said sources.
Meanwhile, the identities of the martyred soldiers were being withheld till their families are informed.
