Jammu: Five members of a family including two children were killed and two others critically injured on Sunday in a fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistan on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

According to the police, the Pakistan Army resorted to indiscriminate shelling and firing on the civilian areas in Balkote sector of Poonch district.
A senior police official said, “Pakistan firing and shelling started at 7.40 am. The house of a civilian identified as Muhammad Ramzan Chowdhary was hit by a shell.
The police official said that Chowdhary, his wife Malka Bi and three sons were killed in the shelling by the Pakistani army.
The two critically injured daughters of Chowdhary were shifted to a hospital where they were undergoing treatment, added the police official.
To this fresh unprovoked Pakistan firing, the Indian troops has been retaliating appropriately, effectively and in equal measures, said the police official, adding that till reports last came in, heavy exchange of fire was on in the sector.
Meanwhile, District administration has started shifting the civilians living close to the LoC to safer locations.
