New Delhi: What could be viewed as a major step forward towards defence preparedness, India on Thursday morning test-fired its Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in its final operational configuration from the Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

This could easily be viewed as another step forward toward Agni’s eventual induction into the Strategic Forces Command, said an official.
Confirimg the successful test-fire of Agni V, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “we have successfully launched nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-V today.”
It may be mentioned here that once the Agni-V is inducted, India will join the super-exclusive club of countries with ICBMs alongside the US, Russia, China, France and United Kingdom.
