LeT terrorists trapped, fierce encounter on in South Kashmir’s Pulwama; Army major injured

Srinagar: A day after the security forces succeeded in neutralising two Hizbul terrorists in Sopore town of Baramulla district of Kashmir, yet another fierce encounter has started between the security forces and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district from late Wednesday evening.

According to a police official, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Kakapora area of Pulwama district.

He said that the security forces, following specific intelligence inputs about presence of terrorists in New Colony in Kakapora town of Pulwama, cordoned off the area.

The police official said, “as the security forces tightened the cordon around the hiding terrorists, they came under heavy automatic gunfire from the hiding terrorists, sparking a fierce gunfight which is on (as of 10.30 pm).”

The police official said that the 50 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operation Group Pulwama and 183 CRPF battalion were jointly involved in the encounter.

“Presence of top LeT terrorists Adil and Majid in the ongoing gunfight cannot be ruled out,” added the police official.

He further said that announcements were made over the public-address systems of the mosques, asking people to come out on streets to help the “trapped terrorists” escape.

As per latest reports, an Army officer was injured during in an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Pulwama.

A police official said that an army major of 50 Rashtriya Rifles was hit by a bullet during the encounter.

He was immediately rushed to the military base hospital where his condition is stated to be stable, said the police official.
