A civilian was critically injured in overnight Pakistani shelling on the Line of Control

According to a senior police official, a civilian was critically injured in overnight Pakistani shelling on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.

He said that the incident took place late on Wednesday night in Lam area where a local identified as Muhammad Mishri received a bullet injury. The injured was shifted to a local hospital where doctors referred him to Jammu for specialised treatment, said the police official.

In the past one week, seven people, including a seven-month-old infant, have been killed and over 50 others injured in unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC.

Besides that three BSF jawans were also injured on Wednesday as Pakistan targeted Indian posts and villages along the 198km-long border in the state.

The escalation in hostilities has forced around 80,000 people to leave their villages for safer locations with the help of security forces.

The police official said that the residents of 15 border villagers of Samba have been advised to shift to safer areas.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, the government lodged a strong protest with Pakistan’s deputy high commissioner Syed Haider Shah over the killing of a seven-month-old infant. “Shah was summoned and a strong protest was lodged at the loss of life of a seven-month-old infant in unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan forces on May 21,” said and official of ministry of external affairs.
