A porter working for the Indian Army was killed and a girl was injured

According to a senior police official, heavy shelling and firing was witnessed by the Pakistan Army on the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

He said that in this fresh ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army, a porter working for the Indian Army was killed and a girl was injured when the shelling from the enemy side started at around 11.30 am.

The police official said that the Indian military has been retaliating strongly and effectively to unprovoked Pakistan aggression. Till reports last came in, heavy exchange of firing and shelling was on.

Sources in the defence said that the frequent incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan were aimed at providing cover fire to terrorists waiting at the launch pads to infiltrate. “Owing to the vigil of our security forces, most of such infiltration attempts have resulted in terrorists getting killed at the LoC,” said sources.

It may also be mentioned here that owing to heightened tensions between the two Armies on the LoC, no traditional exchange of sweets and greetings took place on the occasion of Diwali, the festival of lights.
