Security forces kill 5 terrorists in J&K’s Kulgam, operation underway

Srinagar: Security forces on Saturday morning succeeded in killing five terrorists in an encounter in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Till reports last came in the operation was underway in the area

According to a police official, the encounter between the terrorists and the security forces began late on Friday night in Chowgam area of Qazigund.

He said that on receiving a tip-off about the presence of some terrorists in the area, the security forces comprising the Army’s 9RR (Rashtriya Rifles), Special Operation Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF jointly launched the encounter after laying a cordon in Chowgam village of Qazigund area.

“As the search operation began and security cordon tightened, the terrorists hiding in a house resorted to heavy firing triggering a fierce encounter in which till reports last came in, five hiding terrorists have been neutralised,” said the police official.

“Immediately after the militants were trapped inside a house, they started firing at the security forces triggering the gunfight,” police sources said.

Reports from the area said that the house in which the terrorists were hiding was razed to ground.

The slain terrorists reportedly belong to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Meanwhile, the state administration have suspended train services between Srinagar and the Bannihal town that passes through Qazigund area. Also, the internet services have also been suspended in the area as a precautionary measure, said an official.
