Srinagar: A stone pelter died while three others were injured on Wednesday in clashes with the security forces near an encounter site in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.

According to a senior police official, the security forces laid cordon around Turkawangam village in Shopian following information about the presence of a group of terrorists there but it happens in most of such situation, the locals started pelting stone at the security forces for providing escape route to the hiding terrorists.
On one hand the security forces were facing the stone pelters and on the other hand they came under heavy fire from the hiding terrorists, triggering a fierce encounter that continues till reports last came in, said the police official.
With regards the heavy stone pelting on the security forces to break the cordon, the security forces first used tear smoke shells followed by use of pellets to quell the protests, said the police official.
He said that one of the injured pelter succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while another was shifted to Srinagar for treatment.
Meanwhile, internet services have been snapped in south Kashmir again as security sources said top terrorist commander Saddam Paddar is among the holed-up terrorists where the encounter was on.
