Srinagar: Six terrorists including top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi’s nephew were gunned down by security forces in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday. A Garud commando of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was also martyred in the encounter, said a defence spokesperson.

According to a senior police official, on receiving information about the presence of some terrorists in Chandergeer village in Hajin area of Bandipora district, the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
“As the security forces closed in, the hiding terrorists fired at them triggering an encounter,” said the police official.
Among the six foreign terrorists killed was Owaid, the nephew of LeT operation commander Lakhvi, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
Apart from Lakhvi’s nephew, two other foreign terrorists, including LeT commanders Zargam and Mehmood, are among the six terrorists killed on Saturday, said the police official.
Confirming the development, Srinagar-based Defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said that six terrorists had been killed in encounter at Hajin.
An IAF Garud commando was martyred and another Army soldier has been injured in the encounter, added the defence official.
