Srinagar: An Army soldier injured in a fierce gunfight between terrorists and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday night, succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.

The terrorists involved in the said attack on the Army camp managed to escape

According to a Defence Ministry official, terrorists attacked the camp of the 50 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) late on Sunday in which an injured soldier succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Earlier, a civilian identified as Bilal Ahmad Ganai, a taxi driver was killed in the cross fire between the terrorists and the security forces.

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said, “in a cowardly and provocative act of terror, terrorists carried out a stand-off attack on the Kakapora Army Camp on Sunday. One soldier was martyred in the brief encounter that followed the attack,” said the defence ministry spokesman.

A senior police official said that the terrorists involved in the said attack on the Army camp managed to escape, taking advantage of darkness.

He said that the authorities on Monday suspended mobile Internet services in the district as search operations were on in the area to nab or neutralise the terrorists responsible for the attack on the army camp.

As a precautionary measure, rail services passing through Pulwama have also been suspended, added the police official.

On the other hand, terrorists triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday injuring at least three army jawans.

A senior police official said that terrorists carried out the IED explosion targeting an army vehicle in Turkawangam village.

“Three army soldiers have been injured in this explosion. They have been shifted to hospital. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the spot to carry out search operation,” police said.

However, as the cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces, locals in the area resorted to pelting stones to thwart the operation, said the police official.
