Srinagar: Yet another operation to nab terrorists operating in the Kashmir valley was launched by the security forces on Wednesday in Shopian district of Jammu and KAshmir on Wednesday.

The operation was launched following tip-off about a dozen Hizbul terrorists hiding in the two villages

According to a senior police official, the massive cordon and subsequent search operation in two village of Shopian district was started in wee hours of Wednesday.

Amid local protests wherein a small mob of stone pelting locals tried to disrupt the operation by trying to block the road to the villages, the security forces managed to surrounded Heff-Shirmaal village in the morning.

The operation was launched following tip-off about a dozen Hizbul terrorists hiding in the two villages, said the police official.

The police official said that as the security cordon was tightened to launch the searches, a mob gathered in the area and resorted to stone pelting. Tear gas shells were used to disperse the protesting mob, said the police official.

Sources said that over a 1,000 security personnel were engaged in the cordon and search operation in the two villages.

It may be mentioned here that this was the second such massive search operation in south Kashmir this month to flush out terrorists active in the valley.

Earlier on May 4, over 3,000 security men had carried out another search operation in 20 villages of Kulgam district.
