Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed early on Saturday morning in an encounter with security forces today in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

According to a senior police official, acting on specific information about the presence of some terrorists in Shistragam village in Dooru area of Anantnag, security forces launched a search and cordon operation in the area late on Friday night.
The police official said that the security forces comprising the Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police surrounded Shistargam village late on Friday night.
He further said, “as the cordon was tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight.”
The police official said that the operation was halted for the night but when it resumed early morning on Saturday, two terrorists were killed.
The slain terrorists were associated with terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. “The identity of the slain terrorists has been established,” said the official adding that one of them was Ashraf Maulvi, a Hizbul terrorists active in the area for quite some time.
The official said the encounter has concluded with the recovery of huge cache of arms and ammunition.
