Srinagar: Two army soldiers were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in the Nowshera area of Rajouri district in Jammu & Kashmir on early Wednesday morning.

According to an official, the security forces had an input about the presence of some terrorists in Nowshera on Tuesday. Acting on the input, a cordon and search operation was launched.
Sources said that as the search operation intensified, the hiding terrorists who were believed to have infiltrated recently, fired at the troops, triggering a fierce exchange of fire in which two soldiers lost their lives.
More reinforcements have been brought into the area to plug all possible escape routs, said sources adding that till reports last came in the operation was underway.
It may be mentioned here that Nowshera is close to the Line of Control (LoC) and has remained a hotbed of terrorism in the past.
Also, on Tuesday, J&K DGP Dilbag Singh had said that there were 250 terrorists active in the state, of which 100 were foreigners.
