Srinagar: The Army on Thursday morning foiled yet another infiltration bid in Nowgam sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and in the process killed two heavily armed infiltrating terrorists.
However, in the ongoing operation, the Army also suffered a loss when a soldier was martyred in the fierce gunfight.
Giving this information, an army official said that on detecting suspicious movement along LoC in Nowgam, the intruding terrorists were challenged to surrender but they instead preferred to fire at the soldiers with automatic weapons. “In the ensuing gunfight, two terrorists were neutralised but sadly a soldier was also martyred,” said the official.
He said that the operation was still on as more terrorists were hiding in the area.
In order to corner the remaining terrorists, additional reinforcement has been rushed to the area and an intense combing operation is underway, added the official.
It may be mentioned here that this was the second infiltration attempt by terrorists in last 48.
On Wednesday, Army foiled an infiltration bid by the terrorists along Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector and succeeded in killing three terrorists.
